Mel Jen's Inspiration Post and Challenge

This week's challenge at MelJens is to make a card with a Cold and Snow Theme. I used one of MelJens new images, called "Cozy Little Chickadees" and colored them with Copic Markers. I used DP from Cosmo Cricket's Early Bird collection (very fitting, right?) and cardstock from PTI. I added dimentionals and a ribbon.

I love wild birds. I even have an African Grey Parrot named Cosmos that I have had for about ten years. I am from the West and have never seen a chickadee. However, my favorite bird of all time is a blue bird. So, I just waved my magic Copic marker and waa laa blue birds. Ain't life grand"

I followed the sketch at The Sweet Stop and I also participated in the Digital Tuesday Challenge of "Anything Goes".

Hoping you all have a wonderful safe and joyous New Year. See you in '11.

Make sure you check out all the wonderful creations by the DT using these images! You can purchase these fabulous images and others from MelJen's Designs at the Whimsy Site.

I participated in the Digital Tuesday challenge of creating a card with the theme of "Anything Goes". I used the Sweet Sketch Wednesday Challenge sketch as inspiration for my card. Elisabeth Bell..Willow with Cookies

My beautiful daughter Lauren, just turned 15 years old. I am so proud of her and all her accomplishments. She has a kind heart and I enjoy every moment I spend with her:) She has been the best Christmas present I have ever received. She is a gifted volleyball player, excells in school, and has a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. I am often overcome with pride and have been truly blessed that she is my daughter.

My daugter loves Elisabeth Bell stamps of all kinds. I knew that an EB image would be the one to grace my daughter's 15th birthday card. I used Willow with Cookies. I chose this image from Whiff of Joy. I colored her with Copic markers and popped her up with dimentionals. I added ribbon and rhinestones. I used DP from Crate. I used the Mojo Monday sketch for inspiration.

You really can't go wrong when making a card or a layout with one of Elisabeth Bell's images:) Hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a bright and happy New Year.

A Very Merry Christmas: Elisabeth Bell's Challenge Blog

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours. Hoping you are spending time with your friends and family. Also, hoping you got everything you wished for. I love gifts. My favorites are ones that are handmade. I found a tutorial for this fabric calendar on the Prima Live site. It called to me. I have really delved into fabric this year. I love using my sewing machine. It brings me joy:) So, I combined my two loves paper and fabric together to make a multi medium project. I used design paper from Crate. I also used lots of felt, ribbon, buttons and rhinestones. These are from PTI. First, I took my canvas and cut it to size. Then I added accent stitching with my sewing machine and cut the canvas pieces. I added lots of fancy cutting and die cuts from my Crate paper collection. My tag was created with two Sizzix dies, buttons, and rhinestones. I chose the supremely adorable image from Whiff of Joy called "Warm Wishes". I really love this image! I colored her with Copic markers and popped her up with dimentionals.

The challenge this month at the Elisabeth Bell Challenge is to make a gift and a card. I combined my fabric calendar with a gift card tag for the recipient.

Elisabeth Bell's "Snow Day"

You all know how much I heart Elisabeth Bell's images. My mother is a super huge fan as well. She always gushes about any card I make her with one of EB's images. So, in my infininite wisdom "insert laughter here:)", I decided to use these images as the works of art that they are. I used the "Snow Day" image and colored it with Copic markers. I added DP from Cosmo Cricket and added some vinyl on the front of the glass. I am pairing this picture with the one I made for the blog hop on Friday and giving them to my mother for a Christmas gift. I know she will enjoy them in her house, for the holidays, for years to come.

MelJen's Challenge

This week's challenge at MelJens is to use red, green and gold. When I saw the new release this week: I was awestruck. So many amazing images. Each reindeer has it's own unique personality. I have never seen a more fun rendition of Santa and his reindeer. . I knew I had to make something special. I decided to make a wall hanging that I could enjoy year after year at Christmas time. I purchased a shadowbox frame at Michaels. I covered the backing with cardstock and cut out house die cuts with my Cricut machine. I also used flocking on the houses to represent snow. I added a moon, using my spellbinders, and rhinestone stars. I used most of the new release images this week and colored them with my Copic Markers. I used cardstock from American Crafts. To add further dimention, I cut out "Season's Greetings" in vinyl using my Cricut machine. I added several different sizes of dimentionals to make this image 3D and to allow the back and front reindeer to be seen and to be represented realistically. On my images I added Stickles, Clear Snap Smooch and lots of rhinestones.

I followed the ABC Christmas Challenge of "Yuletide". I also participated in the Beli challege of using Christmas paper or embellishments. I also used the Digital Tuesday challenge of "Baby it is Cold Outside". I also followed the ABC challenge of using jewels or gems on my card.

Make sure you check out all the wonderful creations by the DT using these images! You can purchase these fabulous images and others from MelJen's Designs at the Whimsy Site.

How was the Black Friday Shopping?

If you are reading this you survived Black Friday:) Hope you found lots of Christmas goodies. I for one do not like to Christmas shop around the holiday. Too many crowds. I love shopping online. That is the wonderful thing about these digital stamps from Elisabeth Bell. You can purchase them online and immeditely receive them to create. No waiting weeks or for the UPS guy to show up. Another reason I love these designs is that every stamp has so many personalities. Color the Pat-a-Cake image in Christmas colors and it make a fantastic Christmas card. Color it in Spring colors and you have a whole new look.

I went a little vintage on this card. I love the way the image and the paper compliment eachother. I used DP from Basic Grey and cardstock from PTI. I added a vintage looking snowflake brad, ribbon and rhinestones. I used the sketch challenge at the Sweet Stop for inspiration. I also played with the Beli challenge this week. This challenge asks you to use forgotten embellishments. This week it was embellishments starting with a "R". I chose ribbon and rhinestones:)

Hugs and Happy Shopping:)

MelJen's Challenge

I usually feel pretty confident in choosing colors. However, when it comes to acorns I am at a loss. My entire life I have lived in the Southwest and my acorn exposure has been minimal;) Well, I never would have guessed how many different colors acorns came in.

This week's challenge at MelJens is to make a tag. I used one of MelJens new release images, called "Patchy Ghost" and colored it with Copic Markers. I used DP from K&Co. and cardstock from PTI.

It was my husband's birthday. He loves the Fall and the little "Autum Mouse" and "Autumn Leaf and Acorn" were a perfect fit for the birthday card I wanted to make for him.

MelJen's has a perfect digital stamp for anyone you are making a project for. I colored up my images with my Copics. I added twine and a little silver leaf charm. I used some autumn paper from K&Co. and PTI cardstock.

I followed the sketch at Sweet Stop Saturday to inspire my card.

Make sure you check out all the wonderful creations by the DT using these images! You can purchase these fabulous images and others from MelJen's Designs at the Whimsy Site.

Pixie Dust Studio Challenge

The Pixie Dust Studio Challenge this week is to make a card with a Man in Mind. I decided to try this adorable little snow globe card. I found the tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers. I chose the Melt my Heart image. I colored my image with Copic Markers. I used DP from Crate paper and PTI cardstock. I stamped snowflakes on my acetate snowglobe. I cut out the little snow people and popped them up with dimentionals. I added some ric rac, a snow cap, a tag and some twine.

Make sure to check out all of the other DT members for inspiration. I cannot wait to see what you make for the challenge! You would be amazed what a little magic and pixie dust will do!

Mel Jen's Inspiration Post and Challenge

This week's challenge at MelJens is to use Shapes. Make sure you check out the challenge and participate. You could be named top five.

I made an inspiration card using one of MelJens new release images called "Country Scare Crow" and colored it with Copic Markers. I used DP from Imaginesce and cardstock from PTI.

I love wild birds, of all kinds. Even pigeons can be cute:) When I lived in NM the ravens (aka crows) were huge. They are almost the size of a chicken. They would call at me when I would leave the house to do chores outside. I really liked how when the sun would catch them, they would look blue. My favorite by far, is the blue bird. There are no blue birds where I am in AZ. However, the roadrunners are pretty amazing. I just got back from Mexico. I was in Punta de Mita and Puerta Vallarta. There were so many fabulous varieties of birds. I saw many heron and ibis. Also, the Friggit birds (great name right) were beautiful. Lots of pelicans, both brown and white. Speaking of things with wings-I have never seen so many varieties of butterflies (over 200 different in this part of Mexico).

I used the Tuesday Morning Sketches, sketch for inspiration. I also particpated in the "I've been framed challenge from Digital Tuesday.

Make sure you check out all the wonderful creations by the DT using these images! You can purchase these fabulous images and others from MelJen's Designs at the Whimsy Site.

Elisabeth Bell Challenge Blog

Elisabeth Bell has a new challenge blog called Elisabeth Bell's World. A challenge will post the 25th of each month and you can use any Elisabeth Bell image. The challenge this month is to create a card box that holds mini 3x3 cards.

This was quite a challenge for me. Although I love making boxes, for some reason I can never get the lid to fit just right. To make things more difficult I had to use fractions ugh.... After I figured out where 5/8 was on my cutter life improved dramatically:) My husband was out of town and my daughter was at school. I needed ot call a friend to help me with my math quandry. I used the adorable "A Tasty Read" digital image. This image is for sale at Elisabeth Bell's store. I made this image bigger than I would for a card. I really wanted it to be the focal point of my box. I colored her with Copic Markers to match the Pyrus design paper from Basic Grey I used in this project. To make boxes I love using PTI cardstock. This heavy paper helps my box keep it's shape and bears the weight of all the layering I do.

I used the sketch challenge at the Sweet Sketch Wednesday challenge. I love this sketch challenge. There is hardly a week I will miss. The sketches are always fabulous. I also was able to take part in the Basic Grey challenge of a project that represented Autumn or Harvest Time.

I made my box using the tutorial on the challenge blog. I added dimentionals, buttons and scalloping along the edges with my border punch. Inside the box are tiny cards with envelopes. These cards were inspired by the apple the image is holding. I made the die cuts with my cricut and added twine and a tag. I think they turned out super cute!

The Pixie Dust Studio Challenge this week is to use the sketch to make a Halloween, Fall, or Think Pink project. I used DP from the Basic Grey Pyrus collection and PTI cardstock. I added ribbon, a brad, and dimentionals.

I participated in the Basic Grey challenge to create a project with the feel of "Autumn, Harvest Time". I also was able to take in the Belli challenge of using a pumpkin on my project.

Make sure to check out all of the other DT members for inspiration. I cannot wait to see what you make for the challenge! You would be amazed what a little magic and pixie dust will do!
